About Paul

Paul has been singing and playing in bands for over 20 years now - somewhat suprising since he still likes to claim he is 21!

Paul the Singer

He started out singing ‘Donna’ by Richie Valens at a high school assembly - his first public appearance. This then led to playing a full rock’n'roll gig at his high school, which at that time was a first and certainly had the school buzzing - a little different than the normal school ‘event’ ! In fact the gig, in North London England, was nearly cancelled due to a couple of inches of ’snow’ - a rarity in England but something which Paul is now well accustomed to living in Ottawa.

After playing in University bands at both Cambridge and Nottingham, Paul then started work and played in a duo on weekends. He covered many of his old favorites from Elvis, Buddy Holly, The Beatles, Bobby Vee etc but also played a wide variety of more contemporary music from Eric Clapton, Chris Isaac, Dire Straits and Robert Cray to name just a few.

Paul the Entertainer

Following this Paul spent 2 years playing in a successful ‘Sixties’ showband which was booked solidly all year round. Somewhat sadly he had to leave this band when he emmigrated to Ottawa, Canada in 1998. For a few years Paul’s music career took a break until he was drawn into a karaoke bar which got his musical passion going again. At this time he met young Canadian Idol finalist ‘Emily Vinette’ who he started gigging with at various local Restaurants. Paul is still in contact with Emily and can always call on her talents when someone is looking for some female variety to their event.

Paul’s experience playing with bands over the years is evident in his versatility when playing with other musicians or bands which is often a little problematical for some singers of the modern day ‘karaoke’ era! Paul loves singing with live bands and clearly excels giving a spontaneous performances. But don’t worry, when space and budget precludes a live band, which is very common these days, Paul is more than happy to use backing tracks. His backing tracks are top class and actually allow him to perform a wider variety of songs particularly where an ‘orchestrated’ or ‘big band’ sound is required.
